Lakaye Art Institute

Our Mission

Lakaye Art Institute was founded in 2022 to facilitate the non-profit activities of Galerie Lakaye, a Haitian art gallery operating out of a Craftsman house in Hollywood, California since 1990.

Its first project is the production of a feature-length documentary film titled Out of Chaos—An Artist’s Journey in Haiti. The purpose of the film is in line with Galerie Lakaye’s mission to create awareness of Haiti’s extraordinary arts culture.

To find out more about the film, please visit the Out of Chaos site.

Out of Chaos also comes with an academic study guide, which helps students explore the important issues of our time. Read about the guide in detail here.

Film Trailer

The award-winning film was selected by over 30 film festivals and has been licensed by many universities for student and faculty screenings. The film also comes with an academic study guide! Please visit the Out of Chaos movie page to find out more about the film and our project.

Our aim is to get the film into the curricula of as many universities as possible because we believe Haiti’s exceptional history—past and current—can be used as a tool to teach and help students understand the world around them and the important issues facing us as a society today. Additionally, with this film, we aim to combat the negative stereotypes that have surrounded Haiti by highlighting the island’s other side.

To that end, for a limited time, we are offering a two-year license to a limited number of universities at NO COST.

Please help us spread the word! If you are with a university and interested in licensing the film for screenings to your students, please contact us at galerie@galerielakaye.com.
